A year ago, Avi Danny, 47, had a major stroke due to an aneurism. Neither the MDA team who arrived at the scene nor the doctors in the hospital he was taken to had high hopes for his survival. But after two weeks in a coma, Avi woke up.
Following a 10-month rehabilitation, Avi decided to have a celebration with his family and friends on the anniversary of the day he nearly died. He especially wanted to pay tribute to the paramedics and EMT who he credits for saving his life.
“Even my wife was told by the doctor that my chances for survival were low,” said Avi. “I cherish the MDA team who treated me because it was the decisions they made that saved my life.”
MDA paramedics Yitzhak Neurgerschel, Shaked Rontel, and Guy Ganor, along with EMT Nathaniel Eitan provided essential primary care, then evacuated Avi to a hospital they knew had the advanced equipment he needed. On the way there, they continued to give him medication to treat the symptoms.
“We were so happy to receive Avi’s invitation and to see him standing on his feet,” said Yitzhak Neurgerschel.” “A year ago, he was near death.”
“This whole story is a medical miracle,” added Guy Ganor. “It can only teach us that one should never give up.”
