Israel’s national blood supply managed by the National Blood Services division of Magen David Adom.
Since the current blood bank and processing centre located in Tel Aviv no longer meets seismic building code requirements and has insufficient capacity to meet Israel’s blood needs the decision was made some years ago to build a replacement.
The new centre, the Marcus National Blood Services Centre, will be the world’s first underground and shielded blood bank and processing centre.
The Project includes all necessary departments and laboratories for the National Blood Services Centre as well as several MDA logistic functions, which are synergistic to its operations.
The top three floors contain the main lobby, logistics functions (dining rooms and kitchens), blood donations, training wings, offices and the Mothers Milk Bank. The three underground floors contain shielded laboratories, fleet parking areas, non-critical laboratories and bio-chemical filtration/mechanical systems, logistics and storage facilities.
Construction has been delayed by COVID constraints, however the project is expected to be completed early next year.
We thank the Roth families, Mr Robert Magid, Mrs Ruth Magid and Nora Goodridge for their significant contributions to the Blood Bank. Thank you to all our donors that have helped bring this project to fruition.
